options for corrosion!

Hey guys! So I have removed my seat box so I could have better access to chassis and these corroded areas! Just wanted some advise on what would be best way to tackle these areas of heavy corrosion?

As you can see its almost all gone! could I just cut the area out and rivet a new bit in?

Also is the seat box made of alum and steel riveted together?

Any help would be most appreciated...

Yes you can rivet in some 3mm ali plate

Issue you might have is around corrosion within a certain distance of the seat belt mounting point

seatbelt mounting area is gone also!

If you can weld that would be the best option, if areas are riveted together just remake the same piece and rivet together but if the corrosion goes further then that i would just cut everything out and remake and weld it for strength.

I can weld! but not aluminium which is a problem!

Feel your pain pants007 as I have a similar issue and haven't seen anything on a repair thread that hasn't been done by anybody less than a real pro.

When I get to that stage of repair my thoughts are more on braze than weld as have an old seat box than I'm going to practice on.

Similar to this although not maybe those specific rods but they do have sample vids etc and I've seen rods advertised where you can use a diy gas bottle type torch. Hope it least give an idea

If you can convert you welder to run Ali then it's roughly the same process to weld mate

I had a small patch and found it cheaper to pay a bloke to Tig weld it as by the time I changed the gas, tourch liner and brought the aluminium wire it was cheaper to just pay him. Tig welding is easier to control they normally use a foot pedal to control the power so don't endup blowing holes in the aluminium.
