Hey people! a high explosive grenade would solve this, if no one can advise,

Have 1997 300tdi es discovery,

Heres what happened - Blew HG, swore loudly, repaired HG, radiator leaked was in bad way, replaced radiator , (it disintergrated on touch!)

and now for your entertainment,:p

reckon heater matrix is leaking same state as old radiator, as have a soggy footwell.. (lovely smell)

of course you can isolate heater and connect the tubes... can ride without heat, but would love to have it,

Haynes manual states - "it is not possible to remove heater matrix without opening refrigerant circuit.. must entrust to LR dealer" page 3-11

Can anyone advise before I remove pin on grenade and listen to the ping of the flyoff lever?

Get a quote
Go to an independent garage that dose air con work and get them to drain the gas from the system.
Remove fixings from bulk head into the cabin.

Then once you have fitted new matrix and sure it is good and not leaking go back to them and get them to fit new o rings and refill as well as doing a leak test job done.

Get a quote 1st could cost a little but cheaper than land rover

While pipes are off seal them off with rubber gloves would also recommend an evaporation unit (i think its called, it absorbs the moisture in the system.

You may be able to find someone to do it for beer tokens but goodluck as gas costs a little

Hope that helps

replaced my matrix without touching a/c. tight, fiddly, tiresome, would`nt want to do it too often but did it.imagine the garage bill for that one! hmmm

does the aircon work? its not unknown for the gas to have alleady leaked out....im told it happens a lot in workshops that havnt the equipment or expertise to do it properly

if it gets hot i just open the windows and shed clothes .... never even bother with the aircon on holiday hire cars either. previous owner took the drive belt off the aircon on my disco... said it was for better fuel economy ive never bothered to put it back on to see if it would work
