To cut a long story short,
I have some cans of mixed petrol and diesel

What proportion of petrol can I get away with using in a 200 tdi ?
Ive no propblem with adding a little 2-stroke oil for lubrication etc.

Is this petrol/diesel mix stuff that has been taken from cars that have been filled incorrectly ? If so the you will have no idea what the ratio is and could do your engine no good at all. I add some 2 stroke to every tank as today's low sulphur diesel does not lubricate as well.

transport companies used to put (eg :- 1 gallon to a tankfull??) of petrol / mix in their lorries before plating to clear the lines & sorta de-coke / soot, I've run mix without problems in transit Di engines (with proper pumps NOT common-rail) but as yet not tried in my 200tdi Disco1. I cant see a small % causing issues

but make your own mind up on this :-?

Rich.

On older diesel engines [ not common rail ] it used to be said that a pint of engine oil per gallon of petrol would get you by, but top up with diesel as soon as you could.

how many liters did you put in?

if you had diesel in there before, and you know the tank volume, then, if you then brim the tank, you would be able to work out the ratio

10% would not cause me any concern. more may be fine also.

Stick some veggie oil in it ...
As has been said, 1 gallon of petrol per tankfull is doable...

Ive used lots of petrol diesel mix in a 300tdi
Usually run it £20 of diesel / 20l of new cooking oil / 5l -10l of petrol diesel mix
The quantity of petrol diesel mix depends on the screwdriver test :) ....dip a big screwdriver in the mix take it out and light it with a lighter...the easier it lights/ the quicker it burns...the more petrol in it.....the less I add :)

I haven't got it to hand to check the ratios, but the Unimog 406 manual has a table of petrol:diesel ratios for use where winter blends of diesel were unavailable. I might check later if I remember.

I ran 2 1/4 diesel landys on 1 of petrol to six diesel in winter no side effects , 200tdi is basically the same engine
with a bit of extra blow

The main concern is damage to the fuel pump. Modern engines have pumps that are lubricated by the diesel. Petrol can wreck them. How susceptible is the 200tdi pump ?

Not very susceptible , its damage to the injectors , that is quicker , but the main thing is what ratio do you have to start , and then just blend , I know that 1 petrol to six diesel never harmed my 2 1/4 diesel , so for example 2 petrol 6 diesel 1 veg oil would work oK .
