Ooh err. Where does this wire go?

Hi folks
Have had my V8 Disco 2002 in bits and I've a wire that I'm not sure about. It's a brown wire with a small red line on it. It looks like it attaches with the black wire to the back of the alternator. It's the right length and has the correct diameter electrical connector. There's nothing else nearby that it could reach or that I took apart.
Obviously, I don't want to just try it in case I fry stuff.
Anyone know?

Cheers

This is from the 300Tdi wiring diagrams. However, it does have a page for the V8 starting and charging circuits.
The wires don't match your description though :(

Thanks for looking Al203. I've been trawling the internet for days to try to find the wiring diagram. However, I've just discovered that that the wire has been wrapped against the loom and is not part of the original wiring. That's why it's not matching the diagrams. Sorry I didn't realise that earlier.
Presumably, it was added in when the LPG system was installed. I'll try to follow it back to where it goes.

Have you looked in RAVE for a diagram? You want to be looking at D2, 300tdi is D1

No bother. Pleased you've worked out what it is. Or what it isn't o_O :)

Wire went to a relay block with 4 terminals. This block permanently connected it to another black wire that isn't attached to anything. I'm assuming that the black wire is an earth that has been undone by someone. So effectively a spurious number of connections I think. Will leave unconnected and see if everything works okay.

Bit late for you but always worth taking photos (use your phone) or drawing a diagram plus labelling wires & stuff as you take things apart. For labelling use masking tape & write on the tape where the bit goes.

Yes. Totally agree. I labelled up most bits but must have thought this was an obvious connection. Pictures on the phone would have made this much easier....Next time...And let's face it there'll be a next time!!:D
