Joined this forum mainly for advice and to read other experiences about the peoples champion of cars, the land rover defender.

I've loved defenders for years and finally decided to pull some cash together and buy one. Despite a lot of "it'll cost a fortune!!" "Mpg aren't good" my answer is I made my decision with heart not brain.

I work in a Kia and vauxhall garage and seen how mpg and cost effective cars get customers yet the car has about as much personality as a lead weight. Why so? Just because you'll never own your dream ferrari with flames coming out of the exhaust and topless girls on the hood doesn't mean you should settle with a car you never really wanted in the first place.

Welcome hm Vauxhall.

I used to have a proper Vauxhall (from Russelheim) which got written off, went to the local VX garage in case any trade ins.

Loads of plastic crap now, tried to sell me a crappy little people carrier, all plastic and cheap and nasty. Not even a proper engine.

So I bought a Discovery

The cost of some of the plastic crap would scare you aswell! Quoted a wing mirror to a customer today for 400 odd quid!

One reason I changed, 5 big Vauxhalls over the last 18 years as well, they stopped making them I stopped buying them.

Was going to get a series anyway but write off forced the issue to a Discovery
