I have a 1998 1.8 petrol five door freelander and now 2 more problems have developed.
Firstly - i'm losing coolant. Ok, so i have a new rad, new heater matrix, new pipes (Remote thermostate upgrade) new thermostate housing, new pipes, new expansion tank and cap. In fact the only thing not new in the system is the gearbox cooling thingy. Every morning i start her and i get a sound like running water in the heater - heating matrix. its like there is air in the system and yet i have bleed it correctly 3 times! There was a new head and head gasket fitted 40 K ago. Could this be on its way out. Tested the compression and all good. So where can i be losing it? Checked under the bonnet and no signs of leaks anywhere. Oh, and at oil change, there is no white sludge, just pure oil.
Secondly, every time i go round a sharp corner, i can feel and hear thauds from under the car. Pretty sure its the VC. i had two new support bearings in about 20 K ago. Is my VC gone, or are the bearings gone. there is a bit of play in the shafts by where the bearings are. I would be greatful for any guidance as, as much bad press on these cars, they are fun.
Thanks

Get a garage to do a sniff test on your coolant asap. If this comes up clear, get them to do a pressure test on the coolant system. This'll give you an idea of where you need to go next.
