Hi Guys

having owned a 4.6 2002 Vogue from 2003 to 2006. and completing 70000 completely trouble-free miles, I often wondered what all the fuss was about with the P38.

I currently drive an Audi SQ5 but have ordered a new RS6 for delivery in march, and the audi dealer has offered me a great deal but he wants my Q5 at the end of this month for winter stock, and the deal is conditional upon that.

So I am looking forward to using my 6.3 defender for 4 months :D when my wife points out the following:

A - I will put 6000 miles on our precious darling
B - It does 12 mpg
C - V-power is £1.50 per litre

That means 500 gallons at 7 quid a gallon equals 3500 pounds in fuel!!!!

So I phone my landy man Derek to see if he has anything cheap and reliable to hoon around in and he offers me, free of charge, the use of his P38 4.6 HSE with LPG - Turner engineering engine, the lot.

he says I have to insure it so he gets something back if I write it off.

He is even servicing it for me, fresh MOT - I have to tax it.

Derek says the 4.6 P38 does about 4 miles per litre on lpg, which, cost adjusted at 70p per litre makes about 28 mpg - knock off a bit for warm-up etc when you are using petrol and it probably comes out at around 26 mpg, so my fuel bull will be halved.

The insurance is covered by my existing policy and I am happy to tax it.

I asked him why he was being so nice to me - did he fancy me?

Did he want to marry my daughter(he is 65 she is 11!!!!!)

Does he want to borrow money?:(

None of these things - just that he considers me a good friend and I have spent a lot of money with him over the years and so if he can help me out for once he will.

What a lovely thing to do.....................top man

So - back in the game as of November 1st

I am really looking forward to it - I loved my old one.

The ride is still the best since the XJ mk 3 from the 1980's.
