I was getting the hot oil aroma and the back of the engine was ‘moist’ with a thick layer of oil and crud, was always curious about how loud the on-boost whistle was.

So….when investigating, noticed the missing exhaust manifold stud nearest the bulkhead (sooty doesn’t cover it) and buried under all the cack at the back of the cylinder head was the cyclone breather to air duct pipe that apparently hadn’t been connected to the air intake duct for a few Years!

A) Source of oil
B) Source of whistle

It was a messy, fiddly job but it’s all now reconnected with axle breathers and engine harness wiring correctly routed (methinks bodger previously at work)

exhaust stud ordered (bolt in there temporarily) now quieter :)

Will be off to a steam cleaning fella in Coventry in the next week or so - should be able to spot the other leaks after that, but I now have one less…..

Check the rear of the cylinder head for a gasket leak. It then runs down the engine over the gearbox and drips off the bottom of the box.... I had this and blamed it on the clutch oil seals to the engine...... An expensive and incorrect assessment by me.
