I'd bet a cup of tea that LPG diesel kits are gong to be
the Next Big Thing

Don't think so, cos there's no serious return on the cost. They've been
around for years. Have a word with Car Autogas in Burslem if you're
interested. They've got one of the latest computer controlled kits on a
Camel Disco.

To make it perform like a V8 at a fraction of the running costs. I did
it on my 90. Only needed a 25 litre tank in the back, fitted nicely
along the top of the wheel box. Had a pressure switch behind the turbo
to switch off the LPG when the turbo was idling. Also a temp switch to
hold off until engine was up to normal temp and a master on/off switch
in the cab.
Suppliers will claim fuel savings of up to 25%. Forget it, but you will
break even or slightly better compared to diesel, depending on what you
pay for your LPG. You will however have a much smoother more powerful
motor - how much more is down to how much LPG you want to put in.

tractor pulling on MotorsTV from France last night. some lovely machines,
include the one with 4 gas turbines on it which seems to be completely
unbeatable.

was struck by the "pro-stock" diesel ones, though, a lot of which are set
up, apparently, so that they don't run cleanly until they're up to about 90%
of maximum revs. Probably running a lot of advance - they "idle"
erratically at probably about 2000 rpm, and even while being opened up still
miss like buggery. once they get enough speed and boost running, they
suddenly smooth out and rev like crazy, making huge plume of black smoke the
while.

great fun if not exactly good for the environment.
