From Huddersfield to Bradford I pass by Cooper Bridge Scrapyard. I had an hour to spare, so I popped in
to see if they had a RRC in. They did have one & it was nearly complete & in amazing condition. It has
only done 35k & you really can tell, so I yanked out me tools & got to work, complete superb centre
console, allsorts of trim that's falling to bits on mine, two interior lights, rear mat, rear carpets for
the boot, wheel arches, window lift ecu, distributor, all in as new condition for £20!!!!! yes, £20.

I'm off back tomorrow morning for the full interior for £50!! whilst a bit mucky, its mint under the
muck!

The best bit (hopefully) is it had a 35k 3.9 engine, gearbox & transfer box all warranted!

Main question, can it go in mine with too much bother? what would I need?

I thought it a good idea to buy them all in one & just sell mine on eBay or something

Mines an 89 3.5 RRC efi with flapper type air flow.

Theres still loads on it like alternator, aircon, tons. Thething that ****ed me off (not that I need one)
was the utterly mint headlining with sunroof (a bit rare I suppose) but they had lifted the thing up with
a forklift & the front bits shagged, however, you could cut it!

Cheers

Nige

nicely found well done

but wouldent it be better to just buy the whole motor
from them then you can strip it at youre lesure
see if bits fit BEFORE removing em
and when youre done whatever bits are
left you could store for future use
or chuck em on eBay and make some
money back...

just a thought..

Be sneaky, tell her the Lode Lane factory is going to Ford and these are the
last valuable collectors items that should, maybe, possibly, with a little
luck make you a very wealthy bloke. Then when she asks about that holiday in
the sunshine you can plead that you are speculating in the market. By that
time you should have all the bits you want, then you offer to get rid of it
and you come up smelling roses. You can't lose.

Fantastic result. I often drive past but a) I'm usually in a suit and
b) in a hurry so have never called in. Don't suppose they've got a
101 with good gearbox in the corner?

How long is it going to be until all 101 enthusiasts are clubbing together
bits of their various lovelies to keep one last one running do you think?

You will just see some interesting engine and gearbox transplants!

I suspect that engines will be the least of the problem - lots and lots and
lots of Rover V8s around, and very few totally dead ones - they can
generally be made to work again if you're willing to put in the effort.

I can see the gearboxes being a bit more interesting.

What is it the 101s use? A modified LT77/85/Something else?

Ah well

Give it 10 years and all the oil will be gone and no natural gas will be
available - you'll have a little accumulator on the car and a universal
motor on each driven wheel.

Silent 101!

Except the rumble from the bargrips.

Hmm. If I can convince myself a Disco box on a 200Tdi is man enough for
the job of driving a 101 ambi,I may be able to help.

"Get the Steve Parker Splasher Kit" is all I can say to that.

And maybe a spare gearbox for when it goes "spadang"

we don't need to, we can make anything we need.
So there.

Rich Clafton seems happy enough with the 'go' from his... As standard
101 had 135bhp I think - a decent 200TDi didn't ought to feel too bad
by comparison.

The plated HP is less than 135, more like 120 AFAIK. The 200Tdi, with a
bit of knobbling, CAN do 130+ according to my esteemed friend professor
Shackles.

No, its really if the gearbox will take the load of the rest of the
ambi. I can't see it being a particularly heavily driven vehicle, but I
don't want to rebuild the box more than the once.

The 200 can do closer to around 145-150 with the right tweaking, but it'll
smoke like a bugger under load accelerating.

The question is whether or not you actually want to up the power in a 101
that much - I believe Martyn has opinions on overdoing the power on those
motors - something to the effect of "Bloody scary" or somesuch.

It was the gearbox I was thinking of too - the one in the Disco isn't the
strongest one LR ever put out AFAICT.

Apart from the mainshaft wear and the dodgy clutch release thingy, do
they actually break through weakness? All the failures I hear of seem
to be one of the above.

Shorter bellhousing, IIRC. Main box same as 4-spd RR

Really ? I'm laughing then ? That fixes the engine-gearbox joining
problem, what about joining the transfer box ?
