hi folks any help and advise please
to a working driving fine omega engine out on friday and swapped into my range rover swapped over no 4 injector
started engine fine but runs at 2000 rpm constant tried to rear ecu with a launch and autoboss both will not access engine ecu but will abs and transmission
we changed the injector pump for the original range rover engine yesterday but still high
do you think i need to update software?
tried omega ecu non start put the range back on fires up and runs at 2000
did notice the rev counter says 1000 rpm strange?
any help guys please

It sounds like you may have the timing wrong on the FIP when you had it off. Omega ECU is not compatable with the P38. I'm also fairly sure that the Omega FIP is different to the P38 one, at least the electronic top part is.
You need to look at live data on diagnostics.
You cannot update the ECU software.

also i cannot access live data on this vehicle i have tried 3 diagnostic a launch a autoboss and sykes sti all read trans and airbag but not engine
i remember trying to read the ecu on this months ago and couldnt so its not a new problem
i just cant work out why it was running great in the omega and at 2000rpm in this and its the same with both pumps

As Datatek said - have you set the FIP timing correctly? You need the relevant crankshaft locking pin and adapter for a dial gauge. These are set to .05 of a mm depending on mileage - doing it "by ear" is rather hit and miss.

The timing is set by rotating the pump on its fitting lugs, the fact that its the same old pump is irrelevant - you still have to re-time it if you've disturbed it unless you set very accurate markings when you took the old one off - even then the accuracy is still hit and miss without the relevant tools - ie the exact offset it was set to when it was running well.

hi guys
thanks for the responce and i do agree with you pump timing is esential but i think you miss the point the omega was running great rangerover put a rod through the block we just swapped out the omega engine complete with pump that was running perfect .
all that happened was it was running at 2000rpm then we read a few posts about no 4 injector so we swapped it out the we thought maybe the pump so that was swapped out but my point is if the timing was right in the omega so whats the differance in the range rover is it software? and i come back to the fact that i cant read the ecu with my diagnostic tools

The Electronics on the Omega FIP is not compatable with the P38 ECU as far as I know.
The P38 ECU is not OBD compliant so your diagnostics may well not be able to connect.
So, you may have 2 problems, first the Omega FIP was not compatable, now the P38 FIP is incorrectly timed.
Other than that you need diagnostics.
Lots of threads on engine swaps, do a site search.
