Old to LR, New to RR

Hi All,

Just introducing myself - I've moved from the dark side of Freelander 1 ownership into the luxury of Range Rover ownership.

Just bought a 2005 Range Rover Sport, 4.2 supercharged, which I collect some time this week. Just the basic model, but seems to have everything I need (Privacy glass, sat nav, phone, fridge/cooler, side steps etc). Cosmetically it isn't perfect but pretty damn good for the year, and I can bring it back to a better condition with a bit of time. It also has most service stamps and an exemplary MOT history (apart from a couple of low tread tyres).

Any advice from the venerable gurus about what I should do to ensure it's in the best shape mechanically for a long life (oil/brake fluid/cooling water change/flush, snake oil in the fuel etc). Or advice on a decent code reader/diagnostics tool for the RR which is over and beyond the generic OBDCII readers (I already have iCarsoft i930 and MaxiLink ML629 - but both of these are only OBDCii + a bit, is the bit enough or do I need more?).

Anyway, I hope to be a long term member with not too many problems, but realistically I've just bought a 14 year old Landrover so let the fun begin

For maximum reliability, keep it in a heated garage, polish it regularly and never use it.

Typically your car is right on the cusp here. Probably worth emailing Storey and checking if yours is covered or not.

Your not supposed to mention the 'F' word here

You will need a copy of RAVE (available in tech section). If you need spanners everything is packed in there but these things need good diagnosis when they throw a fit to know what to spanner before hand. Unless yours can print money.

Check gears all function smooth no warnings, EAS works to a degree and control arms are okay - should drive straight like a train no wobbling

Read up before you think about disconnecting battery or jacking it up. They is temperamental
