Ive heard of people mixing old engine oil with diesel I want to know if you can mix old auto box oil (dex111) as Ive just changed the fluid on mine and have about 10 ltrs of old stuff and will have some engine oil soon as I get round to servicing it :D

I've run used engine oil, used gearbox oil, used transfer box oil and used axle oil without any problems.
Filter it first to get the lumps out.

cheers the oil should be clean as its the second lot to come out the box but I will fillter it first

As Galen says, I've run everything from Flora virgin Palm Oil (Got a drum given free) to 2 stroke oil, to used gear oil to used axle oil and any other old oil I can get ... all the old oils I run through a couple of home-made filters. Colander on top of a large open drum and a pair of the missus' old tights, gets all the large and claggy bits, then through a fuel filter before putting it in the tank. I also always mix it with diesel .. and always add it when there's (about) half a tank of diesel already in .. ;)

never let the disco get past half a tank if I can help it ,ive got some new asda own brand that was in the boot of my girlfriends car when she bought it so thats going in aswell

Paul, you should add a 'rare earth magnet' to your home made filter stack, you can find extremely powerfull ones in old hard drives.

Mine sometimes smokes on start-up, but generally doesn't smoke at all unless booting it while still cold, which I try not to do too often .. ;)

And yes, you can use it for what you want, Mate mixes it with a liquid tar he gets from work (He's a roofer!) and uses it like waxoil, except it dries quite hard .. and eventually flakes off like paint .. though I suspect that's 'cos he's also a bit of a feckwit and never prepares the chassis first, just dobs it on ... over muck and everything already there ... ;)

Heh, good idea!

Could easily fix a couple in .. and I have a couple of large nackered speakers in school I can whip the magnets off ... cheers ... ;)

does the motor smoke more when you driving going to try it saves taking it to recycling can you use it to preserve the under side of the old girl as well or is that a no no
Bloke I knew filled his Jag chassis with the stuff. About 8 years later someone ran into the back of him, and the body repair people had quite a damp, oily surprise! No rust though...:)

I assume its red? For a gearbox worth of oil, is it worth the possibility of getting caught with RED fuel. It might take a bit of explaining, there is a reason they dye it red, because its a good direct replacement for diesel.

Otherwise throw the stuff in, its great - I run an old diesel standing engine on it.

Yeah - make sure there is plenty of diesel in with it though - would not be a good idea to fill from empty on it as it's much more viscous than diesel.

right so ive got loads and loads of old oil in my garage all mixed up in one drum, gearbox engine diff etc etc etc, just gota filter it and mix it with half a tank of fuel, what i money saver, wonder how i never knew this !!!
