Back in '89 I owned a S3 12 seater that I'd replaced the original 2.6 engine with a 3.0 P5 unit. The car had a Fairy o/d fitted & with the extra poke was a lovely thing to drive. Sadly it was written off after suffering a severe rear end impact & I didn't have the funds to have it repaired.
I was paid out by my insurers & the 'remains' were bought from me by a motor trader in the Thurrock (Essex) area & checking the DVLA website recently I find that the old girl still has it's original reg. & is on SORN. Does anyone have any idea if/how I could find out where the car is located?
Thanks for reading this post folks.

Not very easy to do, you need to have a good reason to get the details such as parking fines or trespassing. Was changed a few years ago because of data protection or something like it. Think it was the same time they stopped putting the previous owner on the v5

I think you can get a V888 form from the DVLA and that'll list the owners IIRC..
What's the reg?

I think I'm on a wild goose chase Henry, just rechecked DVLA & the info. is that the car has not been taxed since Nov '91 (which is the year I sold it) & no MOT record.
Annoying really as I could have sworn the site stated the old girl was on SORN when I checked earlier in the year, but then & again I'm an old fart
Thanks for your interest anyway.
nb: the reg. is/was DYU 23V
station wagon
red
2625 cc

I think you are right, the wording is something like 'reasonable cause' for receiving the info.
Thanks for your reply.

Yep she's been scrapped unfortunatelty Last V5C issued was 7/10/89. :(

Thanks Henry, what a shame … lovely engine whereas LR's factory fitment of the P4 100 unit was never a success in a heavy LR, especially a safari.
If my '87 Vogue goes to auction next year a VED exempt LR might ease the pain & continue to provide us with a second car, which although we are both retired is a handy thing to have lying around.

You thinking of selling your RRC?

looks like a good motor in your avatar :)

It is a nice one, by far the best of four that I've owned since 2001.
Two previous owners prior to my purchase over eleven years ago, nearly all it's MOT's to back up the 59,000m from new.
Even the number plates & VED holder are original & bear the script of the supplying dealer.
Factory original except for the genuine LR handling kit (post Harvey Bailey) & powered sunroof, both retrofitted back in the 'nineties.
If it goes, then at my age it will be the last as I'd never get another in the same condition without paying a fortune in the future :(

Why sell it?

Surely a drafty old series, does have character, but a Mint RRC is hard to come by, especially an un-restored example.
And they're comfortable ;)

Simply money Henry.
Both of us are retired now & neither enjoy especially generous occupational pensions, plus I have another hobby to fund. I didn't consider the Rangie as an investment when I bought it but it's value has risen considerably during my period of ownership. These days the car barely covers 2K miles in a year, not enough to justify the upkeep costs & VED. I'm thinking that a cheaper tax free classic, whether it be a LR product or not, could still fulfill the role.
Sad, but reality overcomes desire :(
