Hello all,
1) I'm planning to change my gearbox oil, so what should I buy for my Diesel 1998 Disco and while I'm at it I've noticed a lot of oil coming from the gearbox should I replace the gasket/sealer as well?
2) The car's done around 91000 miles what type of engine oil is best, 15/40 is what I'm using at the moment.

1.) Main gearbox use MTF94, Transfer Gearbox use EP 80/90 GL4, definitely replace the sealing washers for the drain plugs. Might as well do both boxes and the axles at the same time.

Click Welcome to the Comma Oil & Chemicals Ltd. Website that link, click the 'where to buy' icon at the top and select the products you're after from the drop down and you can search by your postcode for stockists. Buy the EP80/90 oil in a 5litre can and you'll save a fair bit over Halfrauds prices.

Where exactly is the oil coming from on the gearbox? Need more specifics - a pic would be a good idea.

2.) Use a good quality 15/40 and you won't go far wrong.

Cheers,

Transfer box leaks are usually the intermediate shaft o-rings. These cost nothing but the box has to come out to change them. You will need a new collapsible spacer as well. There are two o-rings of different sizes, one fits around the shaft and the other is in the casing itself.
