oil pump hel needed!

hi all,i recently serviced my 1984 RR but let the oil drain from the pump before replacing the filter! so i have taken the filter cover off and packed the gears with vaseline as stated in the manual,put it all back together (including filling the filter with oil before fitting) and now i cant get the oil light to go out!
theres never been a problem with the pressure previous to this...am i doing something wrong?

try tapping the pressure release valve with a hammer,not to hard incse you crack any casting,the valve maybe sticking.

thanks andy, can i take the pressure release valve out and check it whilst its fitted?

also...should i have packed all of the holes in the pump and cover or just the part where the gears are?
