The oil pressure light on my 300tdi 90 (retrofitted) has been giving me some grief for the past months. It is flashing intermittedly. At first it did so when the engine was cold but now it's sporadic. I have an oil pressure gauge fitted and that is showing me that there is sufficient pressure (20 - 50 psi depending on temperature, revs etc). Last week I removed the connector from the pressure switch and the bulb still flickered a bit every now and then, hence I concluded that the problem is definitely related to electrics. I have followed the wire and there seems to be no exposed wire until it goes into the main harness.

I was thinking of eliminating the original wire and running one directly from the switch into the bulb on the dash. Am I right in thinking that the switch panel is getting its power from the fuse box and the wire running to the oil pressure switch is just an earth?

Sounds like an earthing issue. If you’ve got a reliable gauge fitted I’d be tempted to just unplug the light

I had similar problem with the light flickering (got worse over time), it was the pressure switch packing up.

Yes, the wire from the switch is an earth which goes to the light on dash.

The switch is new. Well i wouldn't put it past me that a new switch is faulty.
