I've been having problems with the oil light flicking on on tick over on my 200tdi.
So I changed the pressure sensor, then I've just changed the oil to 20/50 so no more flicking light. I then fitted a pressure gauge in the cab to keep an eye on it, now I'm thinking this wasn't a good idea.

Pulled up at work this morning & no flicking light, good start. I then looked at the pressure gauge 2psi on tick over, oh dear. After a couple of thousand rpm it's getting up to 25psi but it should be more like 35psi.

Anybody got a spare engine they want to sell.:(

shouldnt have thought guage would be very accurate ,50 psi more like , shell bearings wear especially on poorly serviced engines ,but another engine might be cheaper ,depends if other stuff is worn too like cam bearings pump etc , can also be an oil squirt fallen off

I've had it for the last 4 years & i've looked after it but don't know about before that.
It's on it's last head skim & the turbo has loads of play in it but just pick up another engine with everthing on it for....................wait for it £150.
They wanted to get it out of the workshop, it's been there for th last 6 months.

true its hard to know how tings were before and if its just one of those things with age stuff does wear ,id whip engine out and have a look at bottom end .look at oil squirts too . big ends top most bearing shell wears the most ,mains bottom shell before you scrap it

I can't complain as I only payed £15 for it by the time I sold the old TD & disco gearbox.
I was thinking of rebuilding it & storing in the shed, cos you never know if I might need it again.

Cheers James for the advise.
Just had the big end shells out & there well worn.
When I've got it going in the morning I'll then change over the turbo.

Oh well that was short lived. After changing the big end shells I've only got 20psi on tick over which is better than 0.
I'll take your advise & change over the turbo as well cos it needs doing anyway.

Mains need to be changed aswell I'm afraid graham, not a hard job, same as the big ends really. 20psi on tickover is good though, did you change the pump or just shells? Looks like you have saved an engine here, means you got plenty of spares now...

Half way though putting it back together again, your all right main shells needed doing as well. That will teach me to put it back together without check them as well. Had a little problem getting the shells back in but got there in the end.

Right.
Oil pump changed, shells on big ends & main changed, turbo changed..............................& it's still ****. 20psi max on tick over.
Anything else I need to check / change.

I've just found this in the manaul

44. Thin or diluted oil
45. Low oil level
46. Choked pump strainer
47. Faulty release valve
48. Excessive bearing clearance
40. Oil pressurc switch unscrviccablc
50. Elcctrical fault
51. Rclicf valve plunger sticking
52. Weak rcliefvalvc spring
53. Pump rotors cxcessively worn
54. Excessively worn hearings; main. connecting
55. Faulty skcw gear assembly. 4-cylinder engines

About the only thing I haven't done is 55. Faulty skew gear

It must be the cam bearing. It's 20psi when it's after about 2/3 mins but this afternoon it was down to 12/13 but I'd driven around a bit & it was quite warm.
Still it's better than 0

20psi is fine graham, alot of cars run less at tickover, I will check on autodata for what the pressure should be unless someone on here tells you first. If needed stretch the oil pressure relief spring a bit but as said 20psi isn't bad at all, I bet mines not much more if any at all...
