anyone go any ideas, the oil pressure light as started to come on, on my 2.25 petrol engine. it comes on intermittedley when the engine as been running for a while usually when its revving higher. the engine is a reconditioned military engine, thats done less than a thousand miles, i have changed the oil pressure sender, thinking it might be something simple, no joy there.

is it a military engine youve had reconned or military reconned ,as a lot of military recons around are there rejects some rightly some not

the engine was bought ready recond from the military, i took it all apart when i had it, to check the work had been done. and everything looked good, the engine runs as sweet as a nut, no knocks rattles ect, it does not use any oil or water, it very strange why this as started to happen

To be safe Id buy an aftermarket oil gauge and fit it. That way you can check if the oil pressure is sufficient at higher revs. If the readings are low or very inconsistent Id be looking at your oil pump pronto. Dr.

As the doctor recommended, i got an oil pressure gauge off ebay nice smiths one 52mm dia i think , it sits in the series 3 dash nicely (holes are there waiting)
I also had a look at the pump changed the pressure relief spring and plunger which was a bit worn, get about 50-60psi running but drop s low when idling which is normal

these are the bits i ordered, the tee piece fits into sender unit hole , then the sender and feed for gauge come out of it, gives great peace of mind when the oil light flickers!

just an update, ive fitted a oil pressure gauge, and its got plenty of pressure, the strange part is i fitted 3 new senders into the top of the oil filter housing and got a flickering oil pressure light, i fabricated a tee piece so i could check the pressure when the light came on, and guess what the light as not come on since, what difference fitting a tee piece makes who knows, but never mind panic over.

Same happened to my mate, kept getting a flickering oil pressure light and it eventually stayed on and only cleared under load. Fitted a new sensor, no problems ever since.
