I am in Malaga and have noticed oil running down the wing by the headlight it appears to be from a breather near the bulkhead. Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks

It would help if you stated car and engine. May give a clue to what you are on about. As far as i am aware no breathers near headlamp or running into wing. Oil cooler hoses would be my bet. Or intercooler leak if it's a diesel. Photos would be helpful.

Forgot to says its a 4.6 it's coming from a breather on the drivers side (rhd) up by the header tank running down the wing and coming out at the headlight

Are we talking a approx 6 mm diameter pipe clipped to the end of the radiator? Should be two at O/S drivers side of rad. One is spot lamp vent (if fitted) other is axle breather. I have never know oil come out of the axle breather.

The pipe will be about 6mm but it ends up by the header/coolant bottle it was then running down In between the bonnet seal and wing top then exiting onto the exterior of the wing from near the light assembly.

I made it back to Gib was in a bit of a panic had a lot of stuff in the boot I need for tomorrow.

I'm wondering if this is some sort of crankcase ventilation pipe? It's a 1998.

I freaked out a little when I see all the oil on the wing.

Thanks

Not a crankcase vent, maybe gearbox vent is the oil red, it should be if it's an auto? If it's an auto you may have problems with the oil level to high in the gearbox.

I shall have a look in the morning, from what I could tell it looked clear, but will look closer tomorrow

Thanks for the help.

In the morning from cold if your car is pre 1999 start engine and let idle. Move gear stick several times through all positions. Put in park and dip gearbox 1999 on won't have a dip stick so you can't do this test. Oil level should be between the two marks with gearbox oil cold. If it's above the top mark that is your problem.

Ok I have looked at it today I traced the pipe the oil was coming out of as far as I could, it runs from the drivers side behind the coolant reservoir down the back of the block and then heads towards the rear more towards the passenger side.

There appears to be not enough oil in the gearbox going from the dipstick, and too much oil in the sump from the engine dipstick.

The oil from the breather pipe appears clear.

That is as far as I have got!

It will be the gearbox breather try lifting it as high as you can within the engine bay. Top gearbox to correct level. You will be glad to know oil from gearbox cannot get into engine sump. To check engine oil, on level ground start car from cold and run til oil lamp goes out then stop engine and dip. A tad over will do no harm but it doesn't want to be very overfull.

But water can get into the gearbox via the heat exchanger in the RAD if it's a petrol can it not? OP say's it's clear liquid:confused:
