Found a FRAM oil filter in my attic a few months ago, its probaly about 20 years old.

It was from a Ford Capri and looks almost identical to the one I need for my 90/Disco, the thread is the same, same size and its got a non return valve but the can is maybe about 3/4 of an inch shorter... was going to use it in my next oil change, what do you think?

Go for it ya cheap skate. :p

Cant see there being any difference in the filter micron /pore size compared to newer types.

So long as rubber seals havent deteriorated so it leaks or filter concertina breaks away.

Gotta say chap, that is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cheep! Even putting your engine at slight risk from a 20 y/o filter can't be worth it. If the innards disnitigrated & trashed your motor (I know, I know, pretty unlikely, but all the same....!) doubt you'd have much of a claim!

Right right right, I won't use it.

I just like to see things getting used. I have a load of filters anyway so its not a problem, I'll use the right one!

I had a MaccyD's for lunch today, how am I a cheapskate? They cost about a fiver!

Well, I was waiting for the sandwich van, but because its essentaily Christmas eve in terms off like days off etc... not many people are in, so the van ****ed off after about 3seconds. So I thought I would go to Sainsbury's; a colleague then says its jumping with crimbo shoppers... so MaccyD's was the next best option, or a gallon of diesel... damn I should have bought that instead.

Wish they did still sell it in gallons! You knew where you were wiv a gallon. You still say MPG, you don't say MPL. Mind you jest as well. We'd all be V scared if we were constantly aware of what we were paying per gallon or how many MPL we were doing!

I had a Halfords oil filter fall apart while fitted, I ended up having to take the head off too clear the oil galleries. If your that much of a tight wad ask father christmas for one

Done!

Even put some ATF in the transmission.

Cold, nah its not bad. Warmer than it was last year when I was fitting a master cylinder, was snowing!

Had just been out a run, so engine was pretty hot, oil came ****ing out, and the new stuff had been inside for a few days so it was room temp.
