Oil filter removal tool DA1117

Greetings all...an odd question ,I have been trying to undo my oil filter on my petrol Land rover Disco 2 .Its underneath at the front.... Strap wrench failed. I have a set with 3 sockets and none fit!

Thing is someone has put the filter on really very tight and i cannot shift it. I did think about a screwdriver through it but then thought no just in case still will not move i would be stuck.

I thought about buying a tool DA1117 which is sold for a TD5 and wondered if anyone knows if the filter tool would go on a petrol one please ? Listed below.

You need a better strap wrench like below, they shift anything.

Use an extension bar so your ratchet/strong arm is below the engine bay.

Screwdriver hammered though the side of it, or one of the three fingered tools, must be a decent make, Mac/Snap on etc, about 45 quid but very good.

Try to loosen it with the engine cold, if you are bothered about getting the oil hot to make it drain quicker, then fine, but you can still do that with the filter loosened!
It loosens easier when cool.

Get one of the these, popped on the end of the filter and the filters stubborn seal is cracked within 10 seconds.

No fitting straps or chain around the filter and holding, then to find they slip, I binned mine years ago and replace with the round three finger style, mine must be least 30 years old, now only use it every year or two at the most on my disco, so it will last for ever.

...and when you put a new one on, tighten it up with bare hands then put a pair of rubber gloves on and tighten it a bit more.
You should NEVER need to use more than a pair of rubber gloves to remove an oil filter.

Main thing is to lube the seal before fitting.

TD5 filter is a right pig to get at most tools don't work in the space..

Thank you all.I will get a Sealey wrench as Kermit rr has same car and try with that.the on the Disco was put on by a garage, so assume thats why its so so tight.
I have the plastic deflecter off to give more room.So am hoping for good things.
