Hi all
The wife was driving when she had lost transmission power but only higher engine revs disco 2 tdi 53 plate auto box oil every where luckily she has a bit of scene and pulled into the nearest lay-by and then ended up with no drive at all AA got it home for us on inspection the passenger side oil cooler pipe had blown the furrel off the push fitting to the oil cooler a common problem I believe the price of a new pipe was about £160.00 if not more ( extortionate for what it is ) so I decided to take mine of and get it repaired by a local hydraulic pipe maker this cost £24.00 a bargain compared to a new one. But its not the easiest of jobs to remove the push fitting at the cooler you need to push the plastic cover /ring towards the fitting which releases the grippers on the pipe and just turn gently whilst pulling the fitting if its tight don't be over aggressive just keep trying but make sure you push the plastic cover tightly towards the fitting and it will slide off . Ok next un-clamp the pipe work back there are three and two bolt sizes 8MM & 10 mm the biggest **** is undoing the nut that holds the pipe in the top of the gearbox you cant get an open ender on it by the way its 19mm people say use a crows foot spanner I had a ring spanner with a slight kick as usual and disc cut a slot in it that would let the pipe pass through the nut on the pipe is about 45 degrees and not 90deg to the top of the box I'm afraid this bit is done by feel and touch it takes time but it can be done with patience .So Its great Ive got it out sorry should have mention you need to drop the front prop towards the rear to give extra room for removal of the pipe and replacement of pipe is obviously reversal to removing it out but do remember to check the O ring seal is on the gearbox side on the end of the pipe if not replace always a good thing by the way make sure you have the rubber hose made 50mm longer than original pipe this will give you a bit of movement and grease the cooler pipe to help slide on the fitting take your time it is a s**t good luck
