Oil and water mix

If it’s the K series you tend to get a mix on the dip stick this quite common on My MGF (same lump) but does not mean the sump oil is contaminated-unless your losing coolant? Clean the dip stick several times then try btw way just a thought did you jet wash your engine recently as the K series engine doesn’t go well with water in the electrics ...

Err unless it’s a td4 which I suspect it’s not both have the same Engine and I’ve owned vehicles asw as my D2 TD5 and I’ve actually rebuilt a few K series Engines so I do know what I’m talking about ..
 
When the head gasket went on my 300tdi it struggled to turn over, I then found out it was hydraulicing due to a cylinder full of water.

The Freelander 1 and 2 don't share engines.
