hi all hope some one has heard of this b 4 and can shed some light

Tonight while on me way into work was driving up a nice clear motorway passing a couple of cars in the 3rd lane doing about 70 in my 300tdi disco1 when all of a sudden the engine just stopped delivering power.

So I coasted into the hard sholder by which time the engine had completey stopped

Now the engine didn't coff or splutter or owt just a total and instant loss of power.

so once in hard sholder I tried spinning engine over to no joy at this point started to fink oh balls cam belts gone pink.

so sat there and did usuall. 1st phoned aa and said oi do what I pay u 4
then phoned work and said don't think u gonna want to pay me 4 tonight as am not comming
then phoned wifey to moan
then sat there for a bit then thought I'm sat a bit close to road with the weather so popped it in first gear and turned starter over to make car go up bank a bit outa the way
just as I let key go cos I was now happy with where I was the engine gave a coff splutter and came to life on 3 cylinders then after about 1 min ran fine on all 4

u can imagine my relife at it not been the cam belt in this wether.

car had been stood for about 10 to 15 mins I had a tinker and no fuel was cumming through to the injectors so is it possible that when I was going fast in the 3rd lane and due to the extreme cold that the fuel managed to some how freeze up in one of the fuel lines and then with me been sat there the warmth from the hot engine had thawed it out allowing me to restart or is there something know to cause this problem

n e comments welcome as it got me well confussed and well late 4 work oh and sorry 4 been long winded but I just thought more detail I give my point some one whoese had it to say oh yer tis this.

oh well thats not too bad then cos they not loads o dosh are they. but after the car restarted she has driven fine all the way to work and all the way home neva missing a beat however I was driving a lot slower as had another big dump of snow !!!

THE diesel did,nt freeze, probly the water in the fuel filter that froze blocking the diesel,my pals old escort van did the same thing yesterday, rang me for a tow now the weather was desperate yesday herei didnt want to be towing on those roads ,twas a skating rink,so had a check no fuel swop filter bingo, morale of story ,,,DRAIN YER FECKIN FUEL FILTER ONCE IN A WHILE,same thing used to appen with the plant when i was at work.the watter dont bother it normally so long as it dont get too much.......dave

hmmmm ta will try draining water first light and see if there's n e in there as only fiited new filter 2 months ago but suppose if I have had some ****ty fuel then they could be water in there n e way ta

I dont know if it would work, but one of my old bikes I used to get carb freeze, with the petrol feezing in the carb..

the way to resolve this was adding a anti freeze named FST, I think its done by Silkolene..

Every winter I used to add this to each tank of petrol, no problem at all with carb freezing anymore..

Dunno about the fuel supply, but I'd also have a look at the turbo hoses, prone to collapse internally. They de-laminate, a flap forms and blocks airflow killing power, then can work free again, thus restoring power! Look at the hoses going to and from the intercooler.
