Switched on ignition and awaited glowplug light to go off then motor turned over very very very slowly and finally fired up. Though hmmm should get round to that new battery I have been promisisng the old girl so went over to local bloke in order to have battery checked and lo and behold I was wrong the battery is not knackered after all more a case of previous owner has fitted a small dinky batter for a mini !!!!! amazed it starts at all. I now have a nice shiney heavy duty battery that is the correct one sitting in the back of the disco now for the question. Can I just go and swap them str8 over as I would normally do or will disconnecting the battery cause me loads of problems with the alarm/ immoboliser and if it is gonna whats the best way to go about it please

As long as you're quick, you should only need to reset the radio... too long and you may need to reprogram the key fobs i would think.

I didn't even think about it when playing with my earths though so just swapping it over should be fine!

If you get two cig lighter plugs on the end of two longish wires then you can plug one end in your lighter socket and the other end in someone elses socket parked close by and you wont loose your radio code.

Just need a small amount of power to the lighter socket actually to hold the code.:)
