Offroading in original spec?

My Series started standard, but too tatty to want to preserve as original, so I've upgraded it to better suit what I do with it. I want a Series to go where a Defender can go.

it's easier and cheaper to read your path/route rather than just charging headlong at obstacles ;)

what i think hes saying is a standard 2.25 series will get anywhere a defender will if nurtured there rather than booted

and the comment about costing less to me means that when offroading parts of vehicles have to put up with some serious stick

for instance the humble shock damper if driven sensibly the pressure inside them will peak at about 30 - 40 bar pressure under compression of going over bumps but when its wellied at said bump the speed it has to react and move to such a sudden change will probably peak at around 100 bar equivalent to around 1450 psi in an instant wich is how dampers get bent shafts blown seals bulged casings etc

now it ftats just a damper imagine what the rest of the drivetrain is having to tolerate :D:D:D

With a 2.5 N/A mate, I don't charge at anything.

Are you trying to say that a standard well driven Series will get further than mine?

i've seen both Series and Defenders stuck but i've also trundled past defenders/discos where they've thought all they needed was lift kits and power

reading the route/terrain works wonders with standard motors, although i'll freely admit nothing is guaranteed, i've sank my bitsa in the middle of a river that was six inches deeper than expected i've also had it sitting on the chassis when i've made an error with ruts

my bitsa usually has pretty aggressive tyres on it (SAG's at present), sits on parabolics, 3.54 diffs and is powered by a 200tdi which was fitted because it was my daily driver and workhorse (i now run a 200tdi powered 109 as my daily)

a little link of the correct application of power and momentum where at least one disco and one 90 had previously failed

I drove mine standard for a while, then fitted 7.50's to give a bit more ground clearance in ruts, it was a big improvement but still got hung up on the spring hangers when driving ruts made by Defenders. I had to learn to get the most out of what a Series could do and learn its limitations. Then bit by bit I started to address its weak points, why was I getting stuck and what could I do to improve it.

I'm getting there it's not finished yet, but it's close.

I used mine offroad in standard form for many years but as I got more confident I started doing more serious stuff so like spyderman I started changing things so I could take the series further, the best mod I did is the axle swap because It's now the same width as a 90 and the front shock mounts are at the top now so it only catches on the rears

My old girl, 'Tusky' is a an S1. Celebrated her 56th bday the other week- gave her an oil change!!
I haven't modded her at all. I guess only mod is 750's which i got haven't got round to 'degrading' to originals. Sand, mud, green-lanes...happy days.
She's been a great asset for taking family members around the Breckland woods deer spotting. Life really can be calm.
