The delphi lift pumps have a small gauze filer under the dome.
I assume the aftermarket ones dont (as you cant get into them)

I often fill up from jerry cans. It only takes a couple of flakes of paint to start to block that thin gauze.

Im sure the pump would cope with far worse, and then the filter would deal with it before the IP.

(this is on a disco, that has a sedimenter also)

I think im going to get shot of the gauze, unless anyone can scare me otherwise?

Surely the seperator in the system line after the tank and before the lift pump would take care of these bits....its what its there for after all .

Though being a LR take nothing for granted ...

Sorry to jump on this thread but I started to get a ticking like a slack tappet only to find my priming lever flying up and down making a ticking sound.
Anyone else had this?

Mine was ticking before i cleaned out the filter in the lift pump.

A few flecks of paint had caught on it.

Once my engine is in and all is well, one of the first things i will change is the mechanical pump. I will be boosting with a VVT and will install an electric fuel pump....

Has so many advantages like , constant pressure, you will never have the HP running dry while cranking, you can see air lock easily and can bleed the fuel system easier too.... self prime and self bleeeds according to specs.

With the mechanical pumps cost, noise, slight wear and score on my cam lobe, some reported failures with even OE, I think the electric out weights the mechanical in many ways. It is way easier to disconnect, change and service than OE mechanical.
I will be installing a fuel gauge as well, all will be tied in.
