So the 8274 and bow2 motor is killing my numax battery. Time for a new one but which

odyssey PC 1700 is around £250 or optima yellow top £150

Is the odyssey battery that much better ??

I have 2 85ah 1000cca new max battery's wired in parralle, winch pulls like a train. What alternator you got?

Just got standard alternator for now, bigger one on the list :D

Just thinking my numax battery has twin terminals on the top (main and smaller) and iv got the winch on the smaller terminals

Think its time to try the larger main terminals

Won't matter, if u have used the small bolts on the top you still have all the surface area of the crimp on the bottom that's touching and the nut and washer on top.

Stick a volt gauge on and see what's going on.

Right to test today I parked the disco on a hill with hand break on

Used wireless remote it would pull but keep stopping
Used warn plug in remote and it worked better

When doing this I had volt meter on the battery and it never went bellow 10v when I wasnt winching it read just under 14v

After a few pulls it was starting to sound like if had no power even tho it was still reading 10v when pulling

Took battery off to charge it and it said it was full
The positive wire to the winch was a little worm at the battery

This is my battery now

Whilst 10+ years ago Optima batteries were amongst the best available, however I am not sure that is still the case.

Optima yellow tops are about £216 whereas the Odyssey 1500 is about £225 and the 1700 is about £245.

However there is more then a price difference between the batteries.

The Yellowtop is a 55 Ah battery whereas the Odyssey batteries are 68 Ah

Yellow Top has 690 CCA whereas the Odyssey are 850 CCA (Cold Cranking Amps)

The Odyssey are superior batteries compared to the Optimas

Go to your local scrappy and get a used battery. I have done this for years and you will be amazed what you can get for £15. I have even had an optima yellow top running my sheeps electric fence that looked brand new. Just tell them what way round you need the terminals and what CCA you need. I normally get 2 or 3 keep the best and sell the others on for £25 each in local free ads

Looks like its the Oddessey then

Didn't know that! Thought the split charge system and 2 battery's was all you needed?

negative mavrick. :p

Not with an 8274 and the engine being run off one battery, you will be using more juice than your creating if your using the winch hard.

As you have a 300tdi stu, id be getting a gwyn lewis kit and a second alternator and using that.

No battery at a scrap yard will be better than what I have now. My numax battey is good, but not upto warn 8274 standard to cops with the bow2 motor.

Id rather spend the £250 on a battery that will work when needed.

I dont do things on the cheap, I do what is needed no matter the cost

So far it looks to be the odyssey battey I will be ordering as it seems to be the better one

have you checked the output of your alternator,
ric uses 2 numax batteries, on his warn 8274 with bow motor and doesnt have a problem,
if your alternator is the 70amp version, it wont matter what battery you get, your taking more out quicker than its going in
