Hi everyone, I've done a bit of a search for this but not found much so far.

My turbo is making a strange noise when it cuts in, kinda like the fan whoosing sound that old shoguns make outside as they're going through the rev range and accelerating up the road. It's odd that it either doesn't make the usual turbo whine noise, or it's being masked by this whoosing noise instead.

It performs OK now I've turned the fuel pump up a little and goes relatively well, but the noise is a little concerning.

Any ideas what I could check? I've not taken the intake pipe off yet, but I was wondering if it could just be excessive play in the turbo or maybe something else?

Cheers - Fred

It might be helpful to record the noise and whack it up on youtube... I'm not sure how it'll turn out on my phone, but maybe worth a shot.

Mine made a noise something between a whoosh and a dump valve when the turbo kicked in.

Turned out to be a loose turbo hose, tightened up and back to normal!

Might be worth checking that if you haven't already! 😊

Thought I'd kil some time and tidy up some loose ends before I go away for a week - the noise turned out to be the inlet manifold. The bottom two bolts were about to fall out!!

The previous owner (what a spanner :censored:) seems to have undone or removed lots of things and done a half arsed job of putting them backor just plain not bothered - so, when I found the top two bolts were also nearly falling out a few months back and tightened them up, I didn't know to check for two more bolts underneath! Grr...

I've got lot loads more power and better mpg now, and loads less smoke and no strange noise! :D
So the noise was all the air being pushed out the bottom of the inlet manifold between the block/gasket/manifold, a bit like a reed in a saxophone! No wonder it sounded odd!

Thanks for the input guys...
