Hello!!

I've had a couple of problem free months with the RR but something new has appeared and I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.

If I fill it up with petrol the petrol smell is very strong. As I use more fuel the smell goes away.

Yesterday I filled it up, got home, and noticed that fuel was running down the back of the tank onto the floor. I've taken some fuel out of the tank and even been for a drive and it's stopped leaking, so I reckon the problem occurs depending on the amount of fuel in the tank.

The tank was replaced about 9 months ago, although not by me.

I'm guessing that the fuel is leaking out around the pump on the top of the tank???

I accept that I will need to drop the tank, but what do I use to seal the join between the pump and the tank????

Is there a certain gasket or do I need some kind of funky sealer???

Any pointers would be great!!

Thanks

Steve

steve the pump should have a rubber seal its cracke'd and worn or not been fitted properly or where you fill up the filler neck hose is lose or not fitted properly you need to check this is very dangerous if your a smoker.

I don't know what model Rangie you are talking about but you might bear this in mind.

Some late model plastic fuel tanks in Classics were prone to cracking on the top and allowing fuel to leak out when full - exactly as you have described. The tank actually contracts as fuel is used and expands back to normal when the fuel cap is undone and allows it to regain atmospheric pressure. This constant expansion and contraction causes the tank to crack. Also look for blocked breathers/fuel lines which cause this problem.

steve you need to remove tank to look for holes if no holes try the fuek pump seal if when you fill up there there is a tube proberly rubber that links to the fuel tank this could be split other than that im not sure yes you will have a breather too check for damaged hoses to that too
