Someone please help! Disco 1 300TDI XS ABS light was on so I whipped out all the sensors cleaned them up and popped them back in. All seemed OK as expected with no light, I was in a happy place. Recently (just before MOT) light came back on so I checked sensors and all OK, did the usual fault code reading thing and got the code 2-0. I pulled out one of the sensors about 1/2 inch and unplugged another one and went for a drive, both times the only code present was 2-0 so it seems nothing else is being read. In none of the forums and in nothing I have read have I seen reference to this code so decided to get another ABS ECU from ebay. Changed ECU and cleared codes prior to driving then set off, light never went out and when I got home and read the code it was 2-0!

I can understand that if I hadn't tried this second ECU and cleared the codes prior to driving. Is there any way of testing ECU's to find out what the fault is? I just don't want to get another one and have the same thing happen if there's a problem elsewhere which is buggering a good ECU.

OK tested the sensors earlier on today and three had a resistance of about 1K ohm which I think is about right and one was open circuit. So now I know one is no good so I’ll replace it, but the 2-0 fault registered indicated an internal ECU issue. The question is whether or not the ECU is OK? If I fit a new sensor will I be back in my happy place or do I need to get yet another ECU.
Should an open circuit sensor give the 2-0 fault? I would expect a specific code relating to that sensor not a general ECU code.

ignore the code. you should only use the code to point you in the right direction, if you have a sensor with an open circuit the light is going to come on, replace that it needs to have that replaced anyways if it sends you back to your happy place then result, if not the your code should be looked at closer. could be a wiring fault so check all that before replacing your ecu again.

its important codes are just a guidline. not always the real fault for example a coolant temp sensor can be faulty and not go outside of specified voltages so it wont give a cts fault code but it will give a fault code for a lambda sensor becasue this is the part affected by the increased or decreased fuel delivery,

hope this makes some sence? and helps

sorry just read your post again. did you also check that the resistance alternates on the 3 that did have a resistance when you turned the wheels?

Do a internet search for 'MERRITOR WABCO Maintenance Manual 38 Hydraulic ABS for Medium-Duty Trucks, Buses and Motor Home Chassis' as this is the system for a Disco 1 and you will have allthe info you need. Regards Jonathan
