ok my 300tdi not running as it shoulod have put in a new fuel filter and lift pump , went out in it today and she died on me when going up a hill , any surgestions please

Afternoon
it sounds like you could possibly
have air in the fuel system check you have put the pump on so it is square to the mating surface and the same with the filter then bleed the system by using the manual lever and see how it runs after this.

cheers

ty will have it checked but surly wouldnt cut the engine out completly if it was that ???

Sounds as if you may be drawing air into the fuel or have fuel starvation..

How sure are you about the lift pump?
Is it a genuine one or a cheapo substitute that might need an adapter?

If there is a fuel return pipe from the banjo nut on the filter head, take it off and clean it till you find the air-bleed pinhole, and clean that properly.

Take the fuel feed pip, off at the injection pump and prime the fuel pump lever. (may need to turn the crank half a turn). When the pump lever is is operated fuel should positively squirt out the pipe at the injection inlet end. If not, sort it.

You say it cut out going up an hill. Fost thing that springs to mind is are the feed and return fuel pipes on right way round. Second thing is the tank full of crap an is the crap blocking the feed pipe.

He can find that out using the pump priming lever.
If the fuel does spurt out he's needing to hunt under the bonnet.
If it doesn't, he'd best start at the tank as Grunt says.

You can blow the feed line out backwards and listen for fuel bubbling in the tank. Also your sedimenter may be blocked, if you have one.

I had a slight air leak (at the plastic plug on the sedimenter) once, the engine would start and idle ok, but as soon as any power was required it would stop. Possibly you have enough diesel getting through to run the engine ok until you need the extra power to get up a hill.

Hmmmm..... does some of those tanks not have a non-return valve in them that stops you blowing back?

Find out before applying airline and blowing your pipes off.

Yella? Slob ? Grunt ?

disco 300tdi does have a one way valve on the bottom of the tank pick up pipe so blowing backwards is a no no.
