hi all
my td5 on cold start does not fire on all cylinders, a tap on the throttle and it clears, and then she starts fine until the next day. Thought it might be a sticking valve or some kind of injector problem. Are there any magic potions i can buy to try and clear this.

Take it easy.
5 cylinders it has, but only 4 of them have a glow-plug!
They saved a pound a car by fitting only four glow-plugs in a 5 cylinder engine.
I would like to meet the guys who designed this!

So, on a cold start the cylinder without a plug might lag in firing up just for a moment, and then "catch" properly after a few seconds as the cylinder warms up from compressions or because you hoicked the revs up a bit.

It is very unlikely a Delphi injector is causing bother if otherwise the engine runs well.

NEVER put your foot down on the throttle when starting a TD5 as this causes (deliberately) an excess fuel situation that may actually prevent the engine firing up at all, or making it poor to start and very smoky.

thanks for that Charles, i always thought it strange why they sell glow plugs in packs of 4 on Ebay, now i know, the penny pinching buggers

Hi,
Cheapskates, and what a cheek doing it KNOWING that the 5th cylinder with "no glow" is likely to send unburned but vaporised diesel into the exhaust thus ruing the catalytic converter sooner than need be.

The whole thing is all about them making money - and every penny comes from us mugs who buy their products.

Let me know (PM if you like) if, and if so HOW, you solve this issue.
