I had the typical starter click but no start problems that are common and bought the solenoid fix kit (last October!). Just got round to doing it yesterday. As expected, the hardest part was access to get the starter out but after much cursing and getting caked in crud up to the elbows I got it out. Fitted the solenoid kit parts just like the old bits were fitted, popped the spring in, everything...just like the instructions on the very helpful thread on here. Put it all back together and now when I turn the key I don't even get the click. I presumed it could be a bad contact somewhere and took the starter back off today, checking tightness of everything and making sure everything was plugged in where it should be. All seems fine. Put it back together again and still nothing. I'm stumped.
I had a thought. This is the first time I've had the battery disconnected since owning the car. Could this possibly be an immobiliser? All of the dash lights come on and the radio and other electrics all seem to work, just not starting or even clicking. I found this little fob in the drivers side glovebox. Is this some sort of immobiliser fob? My car is a 2004 TD4.
