My 93 200tdi will not start:mad:

The central locking is not working, neither are the electric windows - I have checked the fuses and they are ok and the battery also seems fine - headlights work and do not dim when I turn the key, but the clock does:confused: and I just get a click. It started fine last time I used it, the battery is months old.

Everything points to the battery but I thought the windows would operate at least slowly and when I tried to jump start it there was no difference at all. The electric mirrors work too. Can anyone shine any light on this problem? I am at a loss as to where to start looking next.
 
It certainly does with the click and the non-starting but I thought the windows would offer to move at least a little. Going to do a more thorough check but was beaten by the light.
 
when my 200 didnt wanted to start and only got was a click and a dim on the dash....it was the starter motor dead...

but to be honest cant remember if the windows worked or not...
 
Ok, it does have that dead starter feel but no central locking or windows is really making it difficult to weigh up - cheers though - i think its because the weather is really crap and the days are short and the law of sod says problems like this will always come up at this time of year :censored:
 
When jumping the battery, does the windows work then ? this should give you some indication of a fault either with the battery or the connections to the starter motor.
 
I had the same thing on my 300 tdi, it wouldnt unlock on the remote and when i tryed to start it the engine just clicked, turned out to be the alarm sensor had got wet where the sunroof leaks and it wasnt disengaging the imobiliser, got one off fleabay fitted it and all works ok(must buy a spare)!!!

funny you should say this - we have had a quite a bit of wet stuff up in Cumbria just lately and I think I may have spoit the kids with one too many splashes through floods. Today after work, whilst upside down in the drivers footwell, I noticed a small rust hole in the bodywork at the side of the alarm control box :doh: My guess is water has come through it and done the nasty. I am going to take it ot for a better look in the light of day but I think this is going to have something to do with it.

If its knacked will i be able to just swap it or will the new one need re-programming to suit my fobs?

i think you can change the alarm box but i think you need to check the number written on it and match it up to the replacment and prob need the remotes aswell.

OK well, a few developments - called homestart today and he managed to get it started - He found a wire near the starter motor (very quickly I might add) which was "off" and when earthed made the engine turn over. Then with the ignition on the engine started :eek: - Odd??? Anyway with engine running I still had no windows or central locking, so whilst it was running I decided to take it to a local landy specialist.

As I bumped up the kerb to do my one point turn, a bucket of water poured out from the sunroof surround/trim - I have never noticed it leaking before (Worse still I have a new seal which will fit in the shed:doh:) , but its been raining quite abit here. I live in the lake district (enough said) As you see this added weight to the sensor theory by about ten tons. Anyway its with them now so I will wait to see what they have to say on Monday and report back.

I love the damn thing but I so want the simplicity of a 110 again - I bought the disco for a transplant but it was too good to strip - if the electrics are starting to play silly buggers I think the time may have come for a swap, it has been such a good tool though. It will be a difficult decision to have to make :eek:
 
Hey folks, Disco is up and running again. Turned out to be a "broken fuseable link in the main wiring harness". Cost me £50 - labour only as it was a repair.

Nicedayforit was bang on the money - well done;)

Hopefully moving house soon - getting a garage - yipeee - no more trying to sort problems at the side of the road in the lovely weather we've been getting in Cumbria of late:cool: So in the future and with you guys to help, I could save 50 notes here and there.
