Hi,

I've just became a member of this forum and I have a question about a recent problem with my P38.

When I used to start the car the compressor always made a soft 'humming' noise. This humming noise was also heard during driving sometimes but always for short periods of time.

Since yesterday the humming noise changed to a much louder and rather irritating noise.

Does this sound familiair to anyone?
All help is welcome, thanks.

Welcome :D Probably EAS compressor or brake accumulator. How long does the noise last for? Any air spuspension problems? Need a few details ...

If it's the EAS compressor that has gone noisey check that the rubber mounts are sound. They do tend to split and fall apart. The compressor can also get very noisey if the bearing retainer on the brush end of the motor breaks up.

Do you lose pressure in the suspension system overnight or when parked for a while? EAS pumps can become stressed if they are working frequently to top up a leaky system. You would know because the car will drop overnight to a very low level, possibly in just one corner. Also, lift the bonnet before you start, the AES pump is on the passenger side near the front of the engine bay under a plastic housing - listen there and see if that is where your noise is coming from.
