noisey K series

At 3250rpm there is horrible drone, its not the gearbox as it does it with it in gear, out of gear, clucth in or out, and it does it when stationary or moving, so it must be the engine. The noise is almost like induction noise and it does seem to be coming from the intake side of the car, but i don;t see why it would suddenly start. It seems worse when giving it gas, i.e. if you coast along in gear at 3250rpm the noise almost goes away. The noise stops at about 3500, although if you are really pushing the engine you can hear it a bit.

Its bloody annoying and giving me a headache!!

Have you checked the air induction system for loose fittings?

Two things to remove on your 1.8:

1. A funnel up inside the air intake housing.

2. A sealed plastic box inside the L inner wing, which the rubber hose connects to. I have known its existance for years. I thought it was an open box, but it is sealed (exception of a 5mm hole). Ripped it out at the weekend (well two 10mm bolts hold it in place). Instantly the 1.8 has more air flow.
