noisey 300tdi help me

hi posted this the other day engine sounded like a old transit di very raspy. so i retarded the pump timing and it was quiet like a proper 300 tdi. have gave it a good run and was fine untill i went out in it tonight. done 14 mile trip in it and on the way back it started sounding like a transit again when i pulled up at some lights and let it tick over. i gave it a rev and it went back to tick over and went quiet again .pulled off and it was noisy again .anyone any ideas what it could be its doing my head in .could it be the injector pump as it seems to knock the timing out and go back to where it shoud be any help would be great as i am at the end of my tether with it thanks

Do a quick check of the Injection timing using the 9.5mm drill in the front of inj pump and the pin into the wading plug hole in the bottom of the bell housing to engage with the flywheel, you may have a failure of one of the timing belt idlers which could have the effect of giving slight timing variation.
Also check the security of the adjustment bolts on the inj pump pulley.
If you have not done a timing belt change on a 300Tdi before look at the threads refering to the job in this forum, that will show how to do the timing checks.

hi dont know whats going on with this heap of **** started it today and it was nice and quiet for the first 2 minutes then gradually it started to sound raspy and it gets worse the longer i run it. its as if the injector timing is spot on when it is freezing cold but as soon as it gets the faintest bit of heat in the engine it gets the diesel rattle and gets worse the hotter it gets might just get another engine and drop it in spent a week now ****ing about checking timing why the fcuk is it doing this heads about to burst what a **** this landy is
