Can anyone help...

Without taking it to a garage to get a second opinion, I've had this noise for over a year now & have just been persistent however it is starting to get worse & the more I listen to it the more I can hear it over my engine... even when driving. It doesn't appear to have made any difference to my car at all. I'm looking to get it sorted now because it sounds like my car is really 'Tinny'. Unfortunately I cannot find a way to attach to this thread so I'm stuck. I can send the noise from my phone or pc to another persons email if this helps!!!
Can anyone help me please?
Any ideas what this could be?

Sounds daft, but easy way is to rev up in dark and shine torch at pulley. If the rubber bond has failed you will see slight haze of metallic dust in the torch beam.

Arctic 2 thanks for this.

I've been out there just now to start up & shine a torch but couldn't see anything wobbling or no dust. Stupid question but I am supposed to be looking at the pulleys with the belt going round? The more the engine revved the more I seemed to get closer to the noise. It's due for a service so maybe get this looked at at the same time? I'm certainly not capable enough to attempt myself...

If when checked at the service it does turn out to be the crank pulley? only fit one type which is a Corteco any others and you will be wasting your money, after market pulleys never last, the one on your car is most likely the original so as lasted up to now.

Also wise to add a new bolt if it is the pulley.

You could always jack the front OS up and remove the wheel and the wheel arch liner and check that way. the pulley is shown in the photo below with yellow dots, did the videos sound anything like the noise you are getting ?

You do have the diesel engine Freelander yes ?

OP has TD4 in the thread title and in profile for which Landy they have, so it should be a diesel.
Be nice if they could put the noise up on Youtube or a fileshare service so people can confirm what type of noise it is.
Should also be able to upload a file from the quick reply box on a PC browser, if it is trimmed to 15.6 Mb or less file size.
Audio clip would be easiest to do that way, rather than video.

Thanks Arctic.

Yes it's a TD4 Diesel. Yeah it did sound similar to the noise in the video and by no means am I bragging... my appears to be alot louder & 'tinnier'. I'll upload a video to YouTube then copy onto here later this evening. Well at least I was looking at the right thing ha. Yeah I'll do that. I only ever purchase the next best part to OM although I have known to buy OM just for guarantee & piece of mind. Thanks for the advice. Just waiting for garages to open now ⏰⏰⏰

certainly sounds like the pulley try do a video from above looking down onto the area of the pulley, through the engine bay.
