Went out yesterday in the FL and I appear to have a new noise, sounds like it's coming from the front near side wheel/wheel arch area (obviously a bit hard to pinpoint exactly). Whenever I go over bumpy ground it sounds like metal rubbing against metal... not like brake disc scraping noise... the noise coinsides with the lumps in the road.... which makes me wonder if it could be the springs?
Just thought I'd see if anyone might have any suggestions. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for etc?
The springs are quite rusty could it just be that?
Hopefully that'l make sense to someone!

Check Drop links, anti roll bar bushes, broken spring, damp (shock) bushes or mounts. Best to get under there with a bar and check for play in everything. Check all four corners cuz the sound could be travelling from somewhere else

I had a similar issue with my D2 and replaced most of the front end components before discovering (no pun intended) that it was the droplinks.

Ok... so... the link def needs replacing, rubber is shot. Would that really cause all that noise?

Mine makes a creaking sound over bumps from both sides, but it more noticeable from the NSF. I've yet to find the cause and have replaced everything except the shocks, springs and top mounts.

Idiot alert... difference between shocks/springs please? Thought they were used interchangealy to refer to the same thing?

Shocks control body movement, but springs support the vehicles weight.
The shocks on the Freelander are in the form of struts, which also form part of the suspension location assembly.

So... can the springs/shocks/mounts be replaced individually or would they come as a complete unit?
