hiya everyone, 8ve got 2006 discovery 3 s
Recently started getting noise from gearbox so I decided to change the transmission fluid and filter.
Done that and gearbox is still making noise...?. When box is under load it sounds fine but when I take foot off accelerata it makes like a scouring noise and when I pull up scouring noise stops but then it sounds like a fan has com on.....also when I put in reverse ,makes screeching noise when not moving.
Anyone know what it is..???
Pls help ..barrelee69.cheers

Hiya mate..

Did you do the correct procedure if the fluid is low the pump inside the box will make a whirring noise..

is it only on decelleration?

is there any clunks knock and bangs at all?

What colour was the fluid that came out? and how much came out?

Have you had a look at the Uj's? checked them for play?

Hiya thanks for the reply.
Followed correct procedures as far as I know..!
Not had any clunking noise so far.
About 7ltr came out , it was jet black and no bits of metal in it ,had a fish around with a magnet.
And yes only get noise when decelerating

Considering the fluid was black, i'd guess it's the one way clutch in the torque converter that is worn could also be the numerous needle roller bearing that could be worn

Also This same noise can be caused by vacuum bubbles forming in the fluid as the pump starts to fail.

The black fluid is indicative that it hasn't had an easy life, black fluid shows the fluid has/had lost its lubricating and cooling abilities its also jam packed full of clutch material hence the colour

Black is also indicative of burnt fluid, again not good.

I had a mega-flush on mine last April and the ATF what came out was a bit nasty but not black.
Mine had a judder which says maybe TC on way out but its been ok since done about 5k since, maybe be buying time before the big bill will have to wait and see.
