No willing mechanics!

Be careful about ‘just picking up a cheap mig’

before you know it you will be pricing up water cooled tig units and true colour filtered welding masks  and all your mates that can’t weld will endlessly ask you if their rusty sh-ite can be welded.

When that happens you insist that they do all the prep work and give them a price list that is $ per inch of weld, it soon stops them bringing you anything that is not actually interesting :D

Pound an inch when I was a kid, that was just as the regs changed and all patches had to be seam welded.

Anyway back to the ops question re finding a willing mech, conversation at work led to me to do some googling, search for hgv mechanics jobs Maidstone (as thats where I live), lowest was low 30k, and highest were over 50k (thats nights) obviously car mechs will be on less, but it wont be minimum wage so they may not be to keem to do private jobs as they can earn enough in their normal working week.
Days roughly 16/17 per hour, nights 19.50 to 21 per hour.

Sounds like i should learn to be a welder & get my tickets, I've just been made redundant due to covid so a good time for a career change! Lol
For now, I found a local mobile mechanic who's coming later today.

Norfolk is where I originally came from, Came down here for work/money 25 years ago and never left, certainly shed loads of work around Kent/Essex.

Hi, I have a 1988 3.5l V8 110 & it needs some work doing for the MOT. I've tried but everything is too tight or its electrical (I know absolutely nothing about electrics)
My other half is working too much to help & just wants me to get rid of it!!!
My problem is every garage I've called either won't do it because its an "old Defender", have waiting list of months or want to charge me for looking at what needs doing when I already know! Oh & "they don't do welding!"
Does anybody know of a good, not extortionately priced mechanic in the Bungay area of Norfolk, UK? .

Did you get sorted yet?
