no vin plates

some advice please

Im thinking of buying an family members series 3 landrover off him but it has no vin plates!.
The story is a friend of the family used to use the landy and for some reason he took off the engine and chassis vin plates off the vehicle, probably to sell?. Since then hes has no contact with the family.The family member has the v5 document and number plates on the landy.
My questions are (1) If the identification of the car has be stolen,would this affect me restoring the landrover?
(2) Is it possible to find the engine number?
(3)Can i have new vin plates made up for the vehicle?
This is the landrover that started me liking landrover as a child and would love to have it as my daily drive. I currently drive a defender 90 as my every day car which ive owned for the past 9 years.

engine number is on the engine? chassis number if your very very lucky will be on the drivers side front dumbiron.

Vin no. should be on the V5 and goes with the reg number. My landy has no vin (long gone) and a home made vin plate and I've never had a problem These are suppliers who will sell you a replacement plate.

You could check the reg on the dvla and insurance database site to see if someone's running around on that reg/vin.
