Evening, this has sort of been covered recent thread but didnt really give me the answer. i have a 200tdi 90 and would like to fit a snorkel. Problem is that there is no side vent on either wing(probably replacement wings with no vent?). The air box is passenger side and the air box intake hose is just lying in the engine bay. to fit a snorkel would i need to cut a hole in the side of the wing(passenger side) and try to adapt the snorkel somehow?.....would the snorkel fixing plate just bolt to the wing around the hole i would need to cut?.......cheers.

log book does say 200tdi so my thinking was replacement wing/wings at some point in the past.....would i still need to cut a hole for the top mount?

it will if its been converted correctly, what year is the landy?
no not if you but the kit in the link(i presume it has wing vents on the top?)
i wouldnt mind you its a rip off but for ease of fitment i suppose its the best option but if your handy with a plasma cutter and a welder etc modifying a cheapo 200tdi (passenger side) snorkel should be easy enough to do :D

gcoo8154....its a 1990 with wing top vent, plasma cutter/welding are foreign language to me so thats a no no.
Steve....i'll have a look into that ......cheers all.

I had exactly the same problem when I came to fit my Snorkel to my 1989 90 TD. As I discovered later on when removing the engine (now 200TDi power) it had a replacement wing on it at some point (different colour inside when radiator was removed) without a vent :(

Anyway, it is more hassle but I'm pleased with the end result. Basically you'll need to cut a hole in your wing and get a long length of hose to go all the way from bottom of snorkel to air intake (I prefer this idea as less connections likely to leak!). The hole was made using a drill to go round and make many holes and then hacksaw between the holes, then finish with some proper trim.

Hope this helps

Richard is that hose connected straight to the intake or does it go through a airbox first. Are the mushrooms a filter or just a capping on the pipework.

I'm pretty sure the top vent is for the heater and doubt it would fit anyway. Space was REALLY tight anyway getting it past the heater to the top of the airbox.

Carlos - Yep it attaches to the existing airbox, wouldn't want to risk going straight into the intake myself! I think the mushroom just stops big stuff getting in there...

also (no offence richard what you have done looks really smart) i personally would have taken it through the top of the wing or notched the bonnet to keep it inside the width of the landy, but then i like tight lanes

I was thinking of fitting one to the offside and using the top wing vent then route a hose round the rear of the engine to the airbox.
But like what you have done Richard its a really neat job. You got me thinking now.

I had heard of people getting these types of snorkels ripped off but I've not had a problem even through some recent lanes where I was basically driving through bushes ;)

Everyone does things differently but it works for me so I'm happy :D

i had the same prob with mine, i bought a secondhand one from a disco off ebay and connected it up inside with some ducting flexi pipe
