Hi All,
just a quickie as i think i know what is wrong but would just like to double check before i start taking pieces apart.
Pretty new to the Landy scene having just bought the beast b4 xmas.
I have basic mechanical experience but not too much just an enthusiastic diyer!

Anyhoo heres the prob.

The only way i can get her to start up is to have my foot all the way down on the accelerator.

Under the bonnet i noticed that there was not suction at all at the air filter, however, there was a hissing noise coming from somewhere. I tracked this down to two hoses coming out of the side of the plenum which are in the pictures below

The above hoses are located just behind the blue lpg rail below

Since i can feel no air coming through the air filter i think that my inlet manifold gasket could be buggered.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advise on this?

Cheers,
Stupot.

That tube in the top pic looks to have perished and split, so I would advise replacing it!! At a guess, a new inlet manifold gasket is pretty inexpensive and probably worth replacing too? May also need a new MAF sensor, or just a good clean, as that can affect the running of the engine quite a bit. Any pics of the whole car?!

Oh so that hose just doubles back on itself then? Any idea where i can get a plenum diagram?

Anyhoo here are the requested photos, the number plate was on it when i bought it, on seeing it my mum went "cool ride". i thanked her for saying so and she said "no the number plate says KOOL RIDE!" :D

Looks nice! Are they Classic wheels or the 16s from a P38? LPG too - lucky bugger, wish mine did!

Will take some pics of mine in daylight if I get a chance, but my guess is that pipe should double back on itself and be connected it it's hissing away? Try blocking it with your thumb and see if that creates suction through the airbox? Also check the airfilter is clean - if it's all bunged up, it won't be helping!!

I will try that tomorrow. Yeah the Lpg is great make it far far far more affordable!

I have been heamorraging coolant too and as i had found a hole in my top radiator hose i thought it was just that. I got a new hose from Rimmer Bros and fitted it today but after a burn up the dual carriageway ther bloody light came on again.

From what i have gleaned from the forum i suspect that i may be loosing coolant from either the head or inlet manifold gasket. I hope its the latter as i will be replacing that as soon as i get the parts. If its not that then i will have to unbolt it all again and do the heads! No small task for me!!!

Yes someone will say why dont i do both at the same time, i know i know!

Baby steps!

Be good to see some pics of your motor, how is it for rust? Mine luckily is pretty solid, someone has been good to her!

Oh yeah not sure what the wheels are from as they were already on, the guy i bought it off had just put new tires on too:)

That is the location of the two small pies that come out of the plenum cover on my Rangey.

Cant find any info or pics of a plenum with them on it!?

Plenty of pics of mine in my profile I think if you fancy a look - won't bore everyone else by posting even more than I already have!!

RE: coolant, is the oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil at all? Will leave a mayo-type residue on the inside of the oil cap if coolant has got in the oil, and you should be able to smell/see it if oil is in the coolant! If so, likely headgasket failure - but if it's getting through it that quick you could have another hole somewhere, either in a hose or a rusted through radiator perhaps?

I remember trying to get the plenum off my old 3.9 V8, couldn't loosen the socket cap bolts for love nor money! May not be a problem in your case but you might want to see if they can be undone before you set aside a whole day replacing the inlet manifold gasket.

Ha ha  just re read that post, there are not "two small pies" coming out of the plenum but there are two small tubes

No oil in the coolant. Found the leak, coming from inlet manifold. Only leaks if I am accelerating at around 60mph> far too cold up here in Inverness to be buggering about with tools at the mo so will just be keeping it to <60 with no bursts of speed!!!

Penetrant sprayed on all bolts just in case it warms up!
