Ok this seems to be a pretty weird and wonderful fault so please bear with me while i try to explain.

I was driving south on friday when the relay (I believe to be for headlight dip/main) behind my right speaker started buzzing, then i Was at Salisbury plain at the weekend and came back with no dipped beam and only a gentle glow on main beam but flash still works.

-Checked the fuses (all fine)
-Checked the bulbs and connections to them (all fine)

at this point i was thinking dodgy earth or the buzzing relay

-on tuesday i changed the relay which stopped the buzzing but hasnt affected the lights. Just after i realised that the lights are now on a very faint glow permanently ! so pulled the fuses to save killing the battery

I seem to only be getting < 1v from the live to the headlights ??
Ive looked at the switch which does seem to have ONE connection that has heated up and melted some of the plastic around it causing it to sink slightly meaning it doesnt make a very good if any connection.

However this is only one connection out of six in the switch so why would it fail both main and dipped beam and cause a permanent glow ?

As far as i can tell its either still a dody earth or the switch, So any opinions before i start pulling things out to look for the faulty earth ?

i also replaced a blown fuse under the bonnet that i have no idea what it does and having a good fuse has made no difference to any function of the car. Could this be related ?

Many thanks in advance,

I had the same issue on my 300 changed the relay behind the speedo.
The fist relay i bought had the same fault as the old one ended up having to send it back and get another
