Went out this morning to start up Stinky and found a coolant level sensor warning light and found that I did indeed have plenty coolant in the expansion tank. Knackered sensor or float thingy....

Anyway, as the engine was running I wanted to give the car a warm up and turned on the heater. Nothing happened, no blowing. Checked fuse which is good. Now, here I would check my legally purchased version of RAVE from Atlantic British to help diagnose the problem and tell me where heater relay is to be found, but my computer says that there is no protected disc in the drive, so I can't. When I pulled the fuse and turned on the swithch there was no voltage on my meter when bridging the fuse connectors.

Could somebody tell me where I can find that relay in a '93 4.2 LSE?

im kinda sure the heater asembly and relays are the same thru 93...hope this helps...

Cheers mate! I've been mucking about on line for clues as to its whereabouts and actually pulled off the panel that covers the relay. Also looking at the switch, but at least I can swap out the relay and give it a test.

Looking at the 1991 wiring diagram, the air con fan motors (the ones inside under the passenger side dash) are switched by the same relay. Try putting on the air con and then moving the fan switch. If the fans don't come on then you know for sure the relay isn't working.

Next I would check the earthing on the fan, then check the air con load relay, if this is stuck, then power won't get to the fan speed switch.

Good luck.

I 've tried the air con and that blower won't come on either. I forgot to mention that, my bad. That's why I thought that it may be the relay. I replaced the relay with another of the same and it still doesn't work. I'm about to go check voltage like someone who knows what they are doing (Thanks to John!) and will go from there.

No voltage shown. As I was doing the test I noticed that my phone charger in the cig lighter wasn't getting power. The car was running and I checked the rear sear lighter and there was no power there, either. Could this be related?

Can't say for sure but I think you'll find they are on different fuses. Unfortunately I don't have a '93 wiring diagram and I have a vague recollection that the cigar lighter supply is fused from a satellite fuse box under one of the seats. Sounds like you might have to get busy with the multi meter.

Ah, it would be far more enjoyable if it were not snowing or I had a garage. Thanks for the input.

That's good.... and bad. Good it's working, bad you don't know why it stopped in the first place. Maybe you need to check/clean all the earth points you can find - could easily be an earth fault.
I agree and now I need to buy some little lights for my heater control panel because I broke the backs off 'em putting the panel back on. My councilor in high school said that I could do anything I put my mind too but my manual dexterity was atrocious and not to try to make a living with my hands. Which I do. Clumsily.

The weird thing is now the cig lighter is working and the original coolant level warning light is now quiet. I've had a problem with the sensor in the cap when one of the wires broke. That set the light flashing so I fixed the connection. This time I was confuddled because the connection was still good but the light was flashing none the less. Gremlins I think. Or perhaps a local witch...

id check the resistors ......but why not check the fan motor...but if you switch it to air..and the other fans dont come on mayby the switch is bad... the fan plug is behind the condenser ..but i know it sucks when its cold...and the heater dont work...had that when i first got mine...when you switch it to air ...does the compressor kick on???
but if it was me...and im kinda nuts...and i could feel the heat ...but no fan....id hot wire the blower motor....to get me through the winter....good luck ...
