No diesel getting to fuel filter- engine running then stalling when push accelerator

are you getting fuel to pump? are you getting fuel to injectors . make sure your fuel filter is full of fuel , crank the engine over with the bleed on the filter slightly undone, "does it draw any fuel out ?" silly question are the fuel pipes the right way if not it will not rev and will cut out after a short while , as its running off the return fuel line.

It's run for about a minute 30 and no change.

Yes the filter is full of fuel, or was when i put it on.

I took it off after I had fitted the new lift pump when it was started it just died again. I took the filter off and it was 1/3 full. Thoughts ?

also when you fitted the lift pump did you check it was the right way on the cam , so you can pump fuel , with the pump, by hand ... its easy to get the fuel lines the wrong way round, i did this once rushing, trace them back to the tank to make sure , double check everything , you have missed sumit.

prime filter again, and run engine off a bottle of fuel under the bonnet-take lift pump supply and injection pump return lines into the bottle-this way you isolate tank and fuel line issues. It should run perfectly from the bottle, and if so you know your problem is between fuel tank and lines.Clear pipe wouild be best, you need bubble free fuel going to the injection pump.

Good news is the pump is working . The lines were the right way around. I took it off and re fitted it.

I think I have tracked it down to one of the joints on the new lift pump. I must confess i misplaced the olive and so tried to use the one of the old pump. I do not think it is sealing properly.

Since found the dropped olive, bad news is I had trodden on it and it is no longer round. So where do I get an olive on a sat night/ Sunday?

Halfords say they do not stock olives!!!

you wont. if only you had informed us of this b4 ;) is it ****ing out fuel.

Not ****ing fuel but there is a very slight leak. Once I got pump working the engine now ticks over for a while but when you accelerate hard it konks out. So def air getting in. This seems the most obvious and i presume at high revs even a small gap will suck in enough air to stall it.

Anyway i will now have to wait till I have got a new olive. Am I right in thinking it is 8mm?

This is a chance but you might find a lorry firm that has 24 service and if you slip one of the engineers a pie or even a beer he may supply you with a olive. I only say this as I have a Scania Yard 2 miles on one side and a Volvo place 2miles tuther direction. Any decent car spares place should have them, just get up early tomorrow.

Well that sorted the problem. So you can get 8mm olives from B&Q.

Only problem is that after five days it is again stalling at high revs. So air must be getting in again.?

It will idle fine so I presume it is a minor air leak that only draws air under high revs. I have made sure all joints are tight.
Any further clues?

Should I change the seals in the sedimenter ?

insert a clear fuel pipe between the lift pump and the filter then run it.
any bubbles indicates air.
finding it will be harder. possibles- cracked/rusted union on pickup pipe top of tank, sedimentor housing corroded thru, dodgy diaphragm in lift pump, any union thats been disturbed, cracked or chaffed fuel line.
a leak after lift pump usually presents with fluid.

edit.
where are you anyway?
