Diesels rely on a little vacum pump driven off the engine down by the injector pump for brake assistance, follow the rubber hose coming off the brake servo.
No Brakes!

sorry for the long delay been busy the idea of me disconecting the wires did not work pedal is still hard 
HMMM, Do you know if air in the brake system would cause our dilemma? I am going to try a bleed and see what happens. Do you have any dash lights on or other electrical gremlins? as I do. Just found that the fuel pump electricle connector has been disconnected! do you know what difference this would make?

thats funny you said that the last job to be done was a rear hub oil seal would that have needed all the brakes to be taken off they might not have beeb blead right then and now its showing

Hi,
I hope that this may help you because when I first brought my 300 tdi I had the same problem with my brakes after days of checking it was a ABS sensor on the rear hub took the sensor out cleaned it made sure it was sitting correctley in it's location.
